Scaffolding hire and erection in Amersham
Amersham splits neatly into two for a scaffolder. Old Amersham, along the High Street in the Misbourne valley, is one of the best-preserved historic streets in Buckinghamshire — timber-framed, brick and flint buildings, a great many of them listed, standing directly onto a narrow and busy road. Amersham-on-the-Hill, developed around the Metropolitan line station, is largely twentieth-century semis and detached housing with far more conventional access.
Old Town work is careful work. Timber frame and old brick will not take aggressive tying, so we design free-standing or buttressed structures, minimise fixings, pad every contact point and licence the footway properly so pedestrians can still get past. Because these buildings are irregular — jettied upper floors, uneven frontages, sloping ground — the scaffold has to be set out to the building rather than to a drawing of a rectangle.
On the Hill, it is the more familiar mix: roof strips, chimney work, re-renders, loft conversions, extensions and solar, with reasonable driveway access on most plots. We also cover the surrounding villages — Chesham Bois, Little Chalfont, Coleshill and Chesham — which have their own mix of period and modern property.
Local knowledge
The property and sites we scaffold in Amersham
Knowing the building stock is half the job. This is what we are usually working on in and around Amersham.
Old Amersham High Street
Listed timber-framed and brick property with jettied floors and irregular elevations, standing right on the footway. Bespoke setting out and low-impact fixings every time.
Amersham-on-the-Hill housing
Twentieth-century semis and detached houses with drives — standard domestic access work with conservatories and side returns to bridge.
Chesham Bois and Little Chalfont
Larger detached property on wooded, sloping plots. Bases need stepping and load spreading.
Misbourne valley ground
Low-lying ground near the river can be soft. Sole boards and proper base plates rather than standards on wet ground.
What we are called out for most in Amersham
Temporary roofs
Frequently needed on Old Town property, where an exposed historic roof structure is not something to gamble with.
Full re-roofs and structural repair
Edge protection, boarded lifts and loading bays where materials need to come up.
Extensions and loft conversions
Phased access adapted as the build progresses.
Repointing, render and timber repair
Access set out to the trade's working heights, with the fabric protected at every contact point.
Local conditions
What catches people out in Amersham
Ground, access, building age and the local licensing regime all change how a scaffold has to be built and booked.
Listed building fabric
We assume no drilling on listed property until confirmed otherwise, and design a structure that stands up without it.
High Street licensing and pedestrians
Old Amersham's footways are narrow and busy. Licensed scaffolds with protected walkways, agreed with Buckinghamshire Council before we start.
Access for lorries in the Old Town
Delivery has to be timed and sized correctly for a narrow historic street. We plan it rather than turning up and hoping.

FAQs
Scaffolding in Amersham: common questions
The questions we get asked most by homeowners, builders and contractors in Amersham.
Can you scaffold a listed timber-framed building?+
Yes. It is a regular part of our work in Old Amersham. We design free-standing or buttressed structures, avoid invasive fixings and protect the fabric at every contact point.
Do you cover Amersham-on-the-Hill and the surrounding villages?+
Yes — HP6 and HP7 in full, plus Chesham Bois, Little Chalfont, Coleshill, Chesham and Great Missenden.
How long does a scaffold licence take in Amersham?+
Buckinghamshire Council's processing time varies, so we start the application as soon as the quote is accepted and agree a realistic erect date around it.
Do you provide design drawings?+
Where a scaffold is non-standard — free-standing, heavily loaded, a temporary roof or an unusual configuration — we provide a design. It is included in the quote rather than added later.
